I realized the other morning, after having a conversation with two lovely people who weren’t native English speakers, that parsing my speech patterns can’t be easy for those not immersed in American English…maybe even in Midwestern American English. I try to make up for it with body language.

On the other hand, recent delving into the topic has revealed many of the idioms I’ve inherited from my upbringing are ultimately Irish or Scot-Irish in origin, so there may be a few places in the world I could get away with it.
