In other news: no brain surgery

April 24, 2013

Good news: no vestibular schwannoma. Bad news: no idea where the tinnitus and high frequency hearing loss in the ear came from…although I’m betting it’s from a sinus/ear infection I had after Christmas. In any case, the damage is done.

Better news: having the little fan on at night covers the ringing well enough to allow me to sleep normally. Music or white noise generators online deal with it during the day. I can write fine. The odd times when it flares up louder are at least a couple of weeks apart.

This concludes the personal, oversharing portion of our program. We return you to your regularly scheduled cat memes.

P.S. — Don’t pick something too soothing for your MRI soundtrack or you will keep nodding off.

Glad you are healthier than you feared. I’ve had tinnitus forever. Didn’t even consider some horrible disease I’ve never heard of before. I have a cyst on the brain that in theory is supposed to be checked every so often, but with no health insurance, no can do. But it’s been there since 1986. I think it’s pretty stable at this point.

So sorry you are dealing with this, but good that it isn’t more serious. I hope you get some answers ad relief eventually–it can’t be fun having one’s ears ringing all the time.
